A Father's Day Blunder 6/22/2020

Tuesday not much happened besides a couple meetings and lessons with members which were good.

Wednesday we had Zone Conference and it was in person! We talked about a letter that President Ballard sent out and how that applied to us. We also talked about the Abrahamic Covenant and how Priesthood keys apply to those under it. Then we did some role plays for our lessons with members. After we ran home and did a scripture study with M in the Book of Mormon which was fun. The rest of the day we had a bunch of lessons with members which was nice and kept us super busy.

Thursday morning we went exploring our area. Since we have pretty much been inside we don't know our way around our area and we had never been to one of the church buildings so we went and found it and got a better feel for our area which was nice. We had a lesson in person with K and we taught the 10 commandments to him and his parents.

Friday morning we had a lesson with a recent convert about the BYU basketball coach's response to hearing March Madness was cancelled. He talked about and kept asking the question "How are you going to react?". Instead of focusing on the things we can't control, focus on what you can do and di what you can to improve your situation. An example of this is from the movie "The Martian". The guy ends up getting abandoned on Mars with no food and nobody knowing he is there alive. Instead of stewing on his situation (despite how bad it was) he decided he would get to work. Later in the movie he says that he focused on solving one problem at a time until his odds of survival started to change. We also posted on the stake Facebook page introducing ourselves. 2 of our other lessons cancelled and the one we did have got kicked out halfway through and we couldn't get them back.

Saturday we did service for a decent chunk of the day. First we helped weed a garden. After that, we went and helped remove sod and level bricks to help a family build their own firepit.

Sunday we went to church meetings. In the second one they had asked us to speak so we gave talks. They had asked us to speak around Tuesday and when we wrote our talks we didn't connect the dots that it was Father's day on Sunday and that we were speaking Sunday. To make up for this, I talked about my dad a little before I began the rest of what I had prepared. I told a funny story about him being a referee for swimming. Then for the other part of my talk I took the engineering design process and related it to the gospel which was pretty fun. The other funny thing was that my companion's collar was sticking up while he was speaking and he didn't notice.

Miracle of the Week: We were calling members to see if we could lessons over zoom with them and 7 people in a row picked up!

Quote of the Week: "if we go on a date and she cooks me food, it's over"

Pictures (hopefully in order):
1. Chick-fil-a does not approve of this "chicken sandwich"
2. Nature
3. We somehow hooked the ball on my companions tie clip
