All You Can Eat Sushi (YUM) 8-17-2020

Saturday was crazy. In the morning we had Multidistrict Council but due to technical difficulties we started over 30 minutes late and we just partied till everything was working. After we went for lunch to a sushi buffet and someone paid for us which was super awesome. The sushi was fabulous and so was their edamame. Then we went and had a meeting with a Ward Mission Leader who walked up and was like "Elders, I have 2 familes who want to be baptized". I was like well tell me more. In the evening we were calling members to set up lessons with them and one person when we asked said "i'm trying to think of a polite way to blow you guys off" and it was probably the funniest phone call I have ever participated in. They asked if their mom had asked us to call and we said no. We ended up not scheduling a lesson. Later we ended up calling the mom and set up a lesson with her and she said that the person we had talked to earlier would be coming up to visit when we scheduled the lesson so we will likely end up having a lesson with them.

I got transferred to Farmington. Roy is at the northern tip of the mission and Farmington is less than 10 minutes south of Kaysville (the middle of the mission pretty much). My companion and I are both new to the area and we are covering half of a stake (5 wards). My new companion is Elder V he grew up in American Fork, Utah (not far from the mission) but moved to Georgia a little before his mission. Before we left, we did service for a nonmember family moving dirt around.

Wednesday we did service painting a fence for a family which was pretty cool since I think that was my first time painting and it was shady as well. In the evening I was able to watch one of my friends homecoming talks that they had recorded and sent me which was super nice. He talked about how Christ's sacrifice and Atonement applies to us every day which was awesome.

Friday we had interviews with President McConkie which was hilarious because he didn't know who I was even though I have been here for almost a year. I introduced myself to him and talked about who I was. In the evening we had a lesson with a family who had a daughter who had just gone on a virtual date which I died laughing when I heard. Dating must go on I guess 😂.

Sunday we met with one of the families that wants to get baptized. Beforehand, the Ward Mission Leader had warned us not to freak out when we saw them because they were covered in tattoos. When they showed up I didn't think it was them because they didn't have that many tattoos. I guess the "standard" for "covered in tattoos" means something different to me than it did to him. They were super awesome though and we could really tell that they want to change their lives and follow Jesus which was super cool.

Miracle of the Week: On Tuesday morning while moving the dirt around I felt really good despite working out for 3-4 hours the day before and before as well. I definitely felt much more energy than I should have which I attribute to God.

Quote of the Week: "There is a higher law than the Constitution, which regulates our authority over this domain, and devotes it to the same noble purposes. . . . Does it therefore follow that Congress may amend the ten commandments, or reverse the principles of Christ’s Sermon on the Mount . . . ? Man could not, by any law, make right what God and his own conscience declared wrong." - William Seward
