Let God Prevail 10-5-2020

On Wednesday we got to do service and help remove roots from a massive tree stump so they could pull it out of the ground. We had a lesson with a couple and the husband shared an insight to a scripture that I really liked. We were talking about General Conference and he shared part of Mosiah 2:9 which was "you should hearken unto me, and open your ears that ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand, and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view". He said this is describing 3 ways to listen to General Conference. First, we can just listen and hear. Second, we can listen with our heart and we will understand what they are telling us. Third, can listen with our mind and receive revelation from God and learn things that weren't directly said but taught to you by the Holy Ghost.

Thursday we grabbed some snacks for General Conference and for those of you who know about Bearman's and ice cream, I was buy 1 get 1 free for my favorite ice cream brand and happily took advantage of it.

Saturday was the first day of General Conference. Every 6 months we have the blessing to hear from the Prophet of God and the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ as well as other people and that is General Conference. There were some great talks. One of my favorite ones from Saturday was given by President Dallin H. Oaks. He talked about how we as a society have been failing to love our enemies as we are commanded to by Christ citing hate between people with differing political opinions. He talked about that we can disagree with people while still loving them. He also reminded us that we believe in honoring and sustaining the law of the land which includes the Constitution.

Sunday was also General Conference. We got together with our district this time and watched it together. The Prophet (President Russell M Nelson) spoke about another meaning he recently learned for Israel. He said that the meaning he learned was "let God prevail". As part of covenant Israel and followers of Christ we need to let God prevail in our lives and align our will with His. In the evening we had an in person lesson with an awesome family in their backyard.

Miracle of the Week: On the way home from our in person lesson on Sunday we stopped and ran into 1 person we are teaching and someone else that we are trying to teach. One of them was coming out of the house for just a minute when we happened to by talking to the other person. Overall super cool "coincidence".

Quote of the Week: "Christianity is comforting not comfortable"
