I Almost Kill My Son 4/13/2020

Image
Not much happened on Teusday. Wednesday we went to the mission office and I took my driving test to let me get a car. Later we had a meeting with the Starkweathers to talk about the new stake we are covering. After doing a facebook live scripture study, we had a lesson with a member who going through a hard time then we had a lesson with Ambree where we reviewed the baptismal interview questions. Thursday we had a bunch of lessons with members which went pretty well. Friday was pretty crazy, we had a morning meeting with the stake president over our new stake and talked to him about what was going on in the stake and how we could help out. Later we went and picked up our car from the mission office. It is a 2017 Toyota RAV4 which is superior to a Honda CRV. It infidelity was weird to be driving again after 8 months of biking or walking, but I survived the drive back to our apartment. However, we are still inside so it's not like we are going to be driving anywhere e...

Just another email about conference 4/6/2020

Fun story: I just got a call and I have been called to be a District Leader (in charge of a small group of missionaries) and they added another stake to our area as well. Shout out to Elder K for being a district leader as well!! This week was pretty interesting. The beginning we we didn't have much to do and it was kinda miserable. However, the second half of the week we were like screw it, we are going to work hard because we have nothing else to do. As that happened, we saw that we were both much more happier and a lot less depressed. I we had more lessons with people as well as the chance to talk to some of my friends (y'all) about the church as well which awesome to see them and talk about what brings me happiness. General Conference was Saturday and Sunday and it was fantastic. Last General Conference we were told that this one was going to be not only memorable but unforgettable and boy did they pull out all the stops. Went our church building and watched ...

This week not much happened so I will just give some highlights. -We had a great district council where we talked about why we came on a mission and how focusing on that can help us stay positive. When I have been obedient to mission rules and worked hard is when I have had the most joy on my mission. -We had a good couple lessons with A about some commandments -I also got to chat with some friends from home which was really awesome and talk about the church and what I believe -I watched some approved movies including 17 Miracles and only cried 1 time (which I felt pretty good about). I also had a tissue box ready at hand.  Miracle of the Week: Our Stake President dropped us off food Sunday after we had fasted. I have never appreciated funeral potatoes and the other food we got as much as I did then. Quote of the Week: "I'm going to draw a skull and crossbones to represent death. That looks like a loaf of bread" Pictures (hopefully in order) ...

Whole lot of shaking going on 3/23/2020

Tuesday morning I took a nap while Elder W patched his tires (again) and put slime in them. Later we went and played soccer for 2 hours with some people behind the church in a field. We started off with kickball until more people got there and then we switched over to soccer. We went straight from there to dinner and then from dinner we went to the setting apart of a new ward mission leader. Wednesday we had an 5.7 magnitude earthquake which was kinda weird. I was in bed and things started shaking. I was like you've got to be kidding me. Oh well. The rest of the day wasn't super exciting. I made some curry mac and cheese which was excellent Thursday we had district council and talked about what we can be doing while being quarantined. Then we went shopping since they announced we couldn't eat at people's houses anymore. Later we had a lesson with J and talked about the Word of Wisdom. Friday we went and got props and filmed our trailer for our Book of Mo...

My dad would be proud 3-16-2020

This week was a disaster as far as me writing in my journal so i'm going off of what I remember for the most part (sorry). Tuesday we had Zone Conference. It was really good. We talked a lot about talking to everyone as well as how to improve our teaching skills. Later, we had a lesson with J where after 4 separate invitations to be baptized, she finally accepted!  Wednesday we did service with T. We helped put trim on a book shelf with a nail gun as well as some other stuff. We visited some people and some lady was not happy to see us. It was pretty funny. After dinner we went to visit someone and he came out with his dad and his dad was like my son is too embarrassed to tell you but he doesn't want to be taught. We were like why didn't you tell us that earlier so we don't keep coming by? Oh well. Thursday Elder K came to my area for exchanges and we had a blast. That being said, the only person that was home that we visited was literally the last person ...

Avada Kedavra - 3-9-2020

Tuesday we had a follow up training meeting where we talked about missionary life and how to have a good relationship with your companion. We took a generations picture with my dad, me and my son which was awesome (see below). Wednesday we visited V and had a good chat. She has been reading her Book of Mormon but she said that she is getting her wisdom teeth taken out. Later we had a lesson with C but we had a little time beforehand so we went and visited Misty and had a great visit with her. We talked about about her priesthood blessing. We helped her recognize that she had felt the spirit after it. We went over to C's and when we got there they already had finished the lesson. Apparently we had wrote the time wrong. If we hadn't wrote the time wrong, we wouldn't have talked to M. Then since we missed C lesson we went and visited W and had an awesome lesson. We shared a video with Elder Holland bearing his testimony. Then we invited her to pray about what we had ...

I have an Alaskan Son! 3-2-2020

When you train a new missionary on you mission, that new missionary is called your son.  On Tuesday we were somewhat alive again. We went over and had a lesson with C where we talked about why we are here, where we came from before we were born, and where we go after we die. At the end of the lesson she told us that she wanted to be baptized but not right now and that she didn't want to come to church which was sad. After dinner, we went to have a lesson but the kid's dad said they can't be taught yet :( so the mom is going to get the grandparents to talk to him. Then we had a super intense lesson with J. She is ready to be baptized and she knows it but she is scared so we invited her to pray and come back next week with a date for baptism. Then we went back to our apartment and packed. Wednesday was transfers so we packed up Elder S stuff and then I went to them mission office to find out who my new companion and trainee will be. One of the fun things about that...
